Acclimatisation for Aconcagua

Acclimatisation is an adaptation process, not a certificate earned by touching one altitude once.

Recent experience matters

A previous 5,000-metre summit can inform your preparation, but the date, sleeping elevations, symptoms and recovery matter. Fast itineraries generally depend on recent pre-acclimatisation rather than simply stronger fitness.

Fitness and acclimatisation are different

Endurance helps you move efficiently and recover from work. It does not guarantee normal adaptation to reduced oxygen. A well-trained athlete can still develop serious altitude illness, while a slower participant may acclimatise well.

Build decisions around evidence

This is general educational information, not medical clearance or an individual acclimatisation plan.
